Once upon a time, there lived many doves
in the jungle. One day they went out in search of food. They flew a long
distance, but did not find anything to eat. All of them were now completely
exhausted.
A young dove asked the King Dove, “Your
majesty, please permit us to take a rest.”
The king replied, “Have courage, my dear
young fellow. We are sure to find something to eat very soon.”
The young dove started flapping his wings
with force and soon left everyone behind. After
a while, he turned back and spoke to the others, “Hey, I see lots of grain down there.”
a while, he turned back and spoke to the others, “Hey, I see lots of grain down there.”
Hearing this, all the doves started
rushing towards the scattered rice under a banyan tree. Suddenly the King Dove
said, “It is too good to be true. There is something wrong. Don’t rush towards
the grain, it may be a trick. Some hunters must have laid a trap.”
But the doves were ravenous. The
sight of the grain was too tempting. Without giving a thought to the king’s
advice, they swooped down and started eating the grain. After having their fill
they tried to fly only to realize that they were caught in a net.
The King Dove said, “I told you before
that it was a trick played by some hunters.” All of them felt ashamed and
scared.
One of them said, “O, King of doves,
kindly save us. We’re sorry for what we did. This is the first time anything
like this has happened to us. We won’t do it again. Do anything but just save
us.”
So the King Dove said, “All of you must
try to fly with the net in unison, all of you.”
Just then they saw a hunter approaching
towards them. The King Dove said, “Now all of you, fly together.”
So all the doves flapped their wings
together and flew with the net. The hunter stood dazed. He couldn’t believe
what he had just seen. As the doves approached a temple, the King Dove said,
“Get down near the temple. A rat, who is an old friend of mine, lives there. He
will nibble the net with his sharp teeth and set us free.”
Everyone was thrilled at their success.
They headed for the temple and descended near it along with the net. Then, the
King Dove called the rat, “O, my friend! Come out and help us. We are in
trouble.”
The rat recognized his friend’s voice. He
peeped out of his hole. He said, “Just wait a moment, I’ll call some of my
friends who will help set you free.” Saying so, he went to get his friends.
After some time a number of rats came and
began to nibble the net. They nibbled all the strings of the net. Soon the rats
set the doves free. The doves thanked the rats and flew back to their nests.

Studying abroad seems challenging. It has
advantages and disadvantages.
Studying abroad gives you many benefits.
Living in a different country for a while will teach you culture more than you
can learn in any book. When you stand outside of your culture for a change, you
get new perspectives on it and your role within it. You become a fish out of
water with the unique opportunity to look back into your tank.
Besides, studying abroad will make you
master another language. When you suddenly find yourself immersed in a world
where everyone speaks another language, you may be scared out of your mind. But
this wears off, and before you know it you’ll be fluent.
Another benefits you may get when
studying abroad is that you will be more independent. When you study abroad,
there’s no going home to Mom and Dad when you’re lonely or need to do your
laundry. You’re on your own. Scary as this may be, the experience of having to rely
on yourself will serve you well.
Furthermore, if you study abroad, you’ll
probably have the opportunity to visit neighboring cities and countries. You
will have an amazing opportunity to travel. You will also have the opportunity
to meet people from all over the world. It’s a great way to build interpersonal
skills, as you’ll be in a situation where you need to befriend and interact
with strangers who are quite different than you.
On the other hand, studying abroad has
also disadvantages. The surprisingly difficult experience of living abroad is
cultural shock. The experience of shifting cultures can make you more resilient,
but is more difficult for some people than others.
Moreover, study abroad credits may not
transfer to your school or to your major. Potentially, study abroad can slow
down your progress towards graduation. Before you make a commitment to study
abroad, sit down with a qualified advisor and figure out what problems you
might encounter. Before you leave, find out which credits will transfer
and which ones will not. Also consider the difficulties you may face learning
to study in a completely different environment, especially if your classes are
in another language. If you’re not a strong student to begin with, study abroad
may not be a good idea.
Another disadvantage of studying abroad
is that you will miss the warmth of your family. Perhaps you will feel lonely.
Independence is a good thing, but so is maintaining connections with your loved
ones. If there are special circumstances at home, like a loved one who is
terminally ill, maybe this isn’t the time for you to leave.
Remember, your school has resources to
help you make an educated decision about whether you should study abroad and
about what programs would most benefit you.

Supernanny
gives proof that parents wish their kids came with instructions. Each week
British nanny Jo Frost arrives on the doorstep of a hopeless household for a
week and teaches the parents what to do. She observes the family, identifies
problems, implements solutions, and then sets the adults loose to practice what
she’s preaching. After watching footage of them on their own for a couple of
days, she comes back to reinforce her teachings. And the results are
astounding. No more kiddie tantrums. Better family communication. Acres of
relaxation. Part babysitter, part adult life coach, Frost turns her charges
around.
Frost makes for compelling viewing
because she’s clear and programmatic. When the first version of the show
premiered in the UK in the summer of 2004, “Naughty step!” and “Your behavior
is very naughty!” became popular catchphrases. These sayings demonstrate how
she instructs parents to communicate at the child’s level. She reveals how to
instill an understanding of consequence and respect. She provides them with
mini-pedagogies. The clarity and stupendous results make the show quite
satisfying. No more screaming kids in the end.
Frost tends to be melodramatic in
her advice. She tells one frustrated couple that if they don’t change their
discipline strategies, they’ll create a “juvenile delinquent.” To another
sleepless mother and father, she says, “I know you love your children, but the
way you run this household is just not acceptable.” The show is repetitive, at
every break previewing scenes to come and summarizing previous ones. Likely,
the idea is that distracted parents will need to catch up.
Supernanny
is better than the other British nanny knock-off, Fox’s Nanny 911, which
has too many twee outfits and quaint sayings, as well as an English thatched
cottage serving as a cheesy “Nanny Central.” This nanny inspires confidence in
her pupils. While not exactly the stuff of screaming fans, Supernanny’s
British pop culture invasion is doing some good — she’s a superhero who can
stop screaming kids in a single bound.
22. When

did the show first broadcast?
A. In 2000. B. In 2001.
C. In 2002. D. In 2003.

D. babysitters
